Country Profiles

National targeting and monitoring are critical in tracking progress towards the MDGs at the national level scale.
The intention of the Country Profiles is to gather a broad range of relevant and comprehensive information in one ‘online space’ that is related to water at the national level. The available information will focus on a variety of specialised issues that will include: climate & hydrological cycle, water resources and uses, access to water and sanitation services, IWRM implementation, water sector financing, water pollution & ecosystems, among others.

This initiative firstly, aims to improve access to information and national data in an easy and understandable format allowing comparison between countries. In addition to this, it also intends to spur dialogue and exchanges of experiences and expertise between stakeholders, organisations and countries to ultimately set effective national monitoring systems.

Monitoring is an essential national planning instrument and decision making tool for resources and management of services. The challenge is for each country to develop an effective monitoring system that is flexible and sensitive to the national needs and priorities able to deliver necessary information and data at regional and global scale.

The Country Profiles, which is an on-going process, is currently under development with guidance and input from our partner organisations.
